Inspiring Girls Workshops at Sutton-at-Hone
We had a fantastic opportunity to welcome Inspiring Girls UK to our school on Tuesday 5th December 2023. Inspiring Girls UK is a charity whose mission is to ensure that gender stereotypes don’t limit the beliefs of young girls. They ran workshops across all year groups using the Barbie Dream Gap Curriculum highlighting women role models including Dina Asher-Smith, Dr Jane Goodall, Ella Fitzgerald, Frida Kahlo, Maggie Aderin-Pocock and more!
The girls learnt about ‘Bright Sparks’, a word used to describe some of the things that people are good at or enjoy doing. For example, Dina Asher-Smith is ‘Body Bright’ because she is an athlete, while Dr. Jane Goodall is ‘Nature Bright’ because she works with the natural world around her. They also learnt that they can have more than one bright spark like Dr. Maggie Adrian-Pocock who is ‘Logic Bright’ because she is good at science and also ‘Word Bright’ because she wrote a book called “Am I Made of Stardust?”. Each pupil completed a worksheet about their own ‘Bright Sparks’ and some of the girls were excited to discover that they have more than one.
We hope that these workshops have had a positive impact on the girls and given them a sense that they can do great things in the future! Many thanks to Katrina and Trish for facilitating the workshops!
