Welcome to Year 4
Fry Class
Year 4 Class Teachers: Mr G Ritchie
Year 4 Teaching Assistants: Miss E Gray & Ms T Allen
Fry Class is named after the amazing mathematician Hannah Fry because she is a brilliant and highly influential person, who shows everyone how exciting maths can be! Hannah Fry proves that numbers aren’t just used for calculations, but she uses maths to work out interesting real-world puzzles, like how people behave, move around and even queue up. By picking her name, we want to celebrate a great woman in STEM and remind ourselves that anyone—boy or girl—can become fantastic mathematicians who can use their skills to understand the world better.
Lovelace Class
Year 4 Class Teachers: Mrs J Dorrian
Year 4 Teaching Assistants: Miss E Gray & Ms T Allen
Lovelace is named after Ada Lovelace because she embodies the curiosity, creativity, and mathematical insight I hope to inspire in my children. Her remarkable skill in mathematics allowed her to understand and expand on Charles Babbage’s early computing ideas, imagining uses for machines far beyond simple number-crunching. Often considered the world’s first computer programmer, she showed how powerful mathematical thinking can be when paired with imagination. Ada Lovelace has also become a symbol of inspiration for girls in maths and computing, proving that these fields are for anyone with passion and determination. By choosing her name, I hope to honour her legacy and encourage all my children to aim high, think boldly, and believe in their potential.
