Welcome to Year 2
Fibonacci Class
Year 2 Class Teacher: Mrs K O’Brien
Year 2 Teaching Assistants: Mrs E Meers & Mrs L Gardiner
Our Year 2 class is named after Fibonacci, a brilliant Italian mathematician born around 1170, whose love of patterns and number systems changed the way we understand mathematics today. In 1202, he published Liber Abaci, a groundbreaking book that introduced the Hindu–Arabic numeral system—the very digits 0–9 and place value concepts we still use. Fibonacci was fascinated by how numbers and shapes connect, and his famous sequence reveals patterns found in nature, from spiralling seashells to blooming sunflowers. By choosing his name, we hope to spark that same sense of wonder, curiosity, and discovery in our children. Keep an eye out—the Fibonacci Sequence will be weaving its way through our learning all year long!
Riley Class

This Year we are called Riley 2 Class after Rachel Riley. Rachel Riley is a well-known British mathematician who the children may recognise from being on the television show Countdown. Rachel loves all things maths and science and has worked hard to raise the profile of Maths and STEM subjects.
